White week in Ireland... I

HALLOWEEN CRAFTS I

During the week before Halloween, the boys had one week free (without school). We called this "white week" (here is a break in the midterm). The boys and I used this week to decorate the house with Halloween crafts. One of this activities was decorate paper pumpkins with magazines scraps (the same that with Mr. Potato toy). I saw the idea in Reading Confetti - Fun and simple activities to create life long readers. They called to the pumpkins "Jack-o'-lantern" (for know more about it you can visit: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jack-o%27-lantern). 

Before the activity I drew a pumpkin in a cardboard (for Barry I cut it but the older boys have to cut by themselves). Then, they start to decorate with magazines scraps.

For the activity you just need:

• Orange cardboard
• Green cardboard
• Glue stick 
• Scissors 
• Older magazines (with faces)

I LOVE THIS SONG... FIVE LITTLE PUMPKINS

Five little pumpkins sitting on a gate... witches in the air! Every morning the boys and I sang this song when we go to the school. It's a typical English song that the children sing in the playschool in Halloween. I attach a lovely video of the song! 

The lyric:

Five little pumpkins sitting on a gate.


The first one said, "Oh my it's getting late."


The second one said, "There are witches in the air."


The third one said, "But we don't care!"


The fourth one said, "Let's run and run and run."


The fifth one said, "We’re ready for some fun!"

Autumn activity (actividad de otoño)

AUTUMN WREATH (guirnalda otoñal)

I will try to write part of this activity in English, because I'm living in Ireland to learn English and I think this is good to improve it. I saw this activity on Pinterest page (in Craft-for-all-seasons): an autumn's wreath to make with children. 

Here, in Ireland, I'm working as aupair of three lovely boys, Gavin (11), Cian (9) and Barry (3). I was thinking in activities to make with Barry when I've seen this activity and it's looks so nice. 

Entonces decidí realizar la actividad con el peque y me puse a ello.
Los materiales que se necesitan para poder llevar a cabo la actividad son:

• Hojas de diferentes colores (otoñales a ser posible)
• Un plato de papel (de los que se usan para las fiesta infantiles)
• Pegamento líquido o cola blanca (aunque yo usé pegamento de barra porque era el que tenía)
• Tijeras
• Lazo (opcional; yo no tenía)

 

  

Primero de todo hay que recoger las hojas, es una actividad muy divertida, yo le di una bolsa a Barry y le expliqué que tenía que coger hojas de varios colores. Aprovechando el enorme jardín delantero de la casa donde estoy viviendo y el estupendo sol que hacía... ¡Barry se puso manos a la obra! 

  

Luego entramos en la casa y Barry manipulo un rato las hojas que había cogido. Cabe decir que el día anterior había venido el jardinero (todavía no entiendo cada cuanto viene...) y como es una zona donde acostumbra a llover, las hojas estaban un poco así... 

Y finalmente... a pegar las hojas en la cartulina. Nos ayudó Gavin, el hermano mayor, que le fue diciendo ahora coge otro color, ahora otro... De ahí que la combinación sea variada. 

Y este es el resultado: una corona de hojas de otoño. Aún así recomiendo cola blanca porque os permitirá poner cola encima de las hojas y así evitar que queden espacios en blanco. Si las hojas están un poco más planchadas mejor pero lo importante es que quién lo haga disfrute y si puede recoger las hojas por sí mismo mucho mejor. Al final se le puede añadir un lazo, puesto que le da un toque muy bonito.
